Being confident in English can give children an early advantage at school and give them a great head start in making the most of the education, qualification and career opportunities that lie in front of them. By encouraging children to talk, play and interact with each other in a natural and enjoyable way, we help them practise their speaking, listening, reading and writing without feeling they’re being taught.
Classes are specifically designed around the unique way children learn and are taught by a teacher who is passionate about the English language. Children will learn English through games, songs, stories and activities. By providing fun and engaging language classes which go beyond just learning the language, whether the child is a new arrival to Cornwall or needs extra support in school and using the children’s home languages to support English language learning, our EAL classes enable children to progress with a rapidly increasing vocabulary and confidence. Children will develop all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening.
By using the child’s home language along with adapting and personalising classes and materials to match children’s needs and interests, children will absorb the new language easily and quickly. ‘Translanguaging’ – the use of different languages together – can be a powerful tool for learning. We believe that ‘translanguaging’ can be used successfully to support EAL learners at home and in the classroom. Children often know a word in their home language, by using Makaton and new English words, the child is able to move easily from the home language to English and back again, making learning more fun and less stressful.
Lessons are 1:1 and face to face only, starting at £30 per hour.
