Volunteering with TALKmoreCORNWALL is a meaningful way to help some of Cornwall’s most vulnerable children, families and adults. It’s also an opportunity to develop and enjoy new experiences. You’ll connect with your community, meet new people, learn new skills and share what you know.
Makaton is a language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate who might otherwise find it difficult. You don’t need to have any previous Makaton knowledge or training.
Everything we do is about giving children and adults in Cornwall a means to communicate with those around them. You can help make a real difference to the lives of families in your local area.
You don’t need Makaton skills for many of our roles. All we ask for is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. We’ll support your professional development with references. As a volunteer, once you have completed 80 hours of volunteering with us, you will be able to complete a free Level 1, 2, 3 or 4 workshop to help you along your Makaton journey.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is open to everyone, from all backgrounds. There’s no upper age limit, though you’ll need to be at least 14 to apply (16 or 18 for some roles).
WordPress Website Designer
We are currently recruiting a WordPress developer to support a variety of content marketing tasks related to our current projects. We are looking for an individual who is passionate, hands-on and can multi-task.
Makaton Workshop Helper
Can you help us set-up events, and be there to support visitors, staff and fundraisers? Can you help with posting manuals or certificates, making resources? Learning a little Makaton along the way?
Makaton Choir Helper
We are very much a family oriented choir and value all the families who support us in many ways. We are seeking volunteers who can give what time they can to help us organise the choirs, as well as running our fundraising campaign. These are valued roles contributing in a variety of important ways to our choir family.
Who can volunteer?
We’re especially keen to hear from people with disabilities, or who identify as Black, Asian or another minority ethnic group (BAME). You can volunteer if you’re an asylum seeker. Volunteering won’t affect any benefits you get.
You may be unsure how volunteering fits your background, health or personal circumstances. But whatever your life experience, we’d value your contribution.
